NOLA -- The Big Easy

Meg and I are spending a couple of days in New Orleans before attending Brittany's wedding in Lafayette this weekend. Neither of us had been here before and didn't know when we might have the chance to return. We are staying at a charming little boutique hotel in the French Quarter called the Hotel St. Marie. We made it to town, had dinner at the excellent Oceana restaurant, and ran into this character as soon as we turned the corner onto Bourbon Street. Little did we know, this gentleman is one of the tamer characters we would come across! Looking down Bourbon Street. It's the only streeet in the French Quarter that has neon signs...kinda reminds me of Old Las Vegas. We saw many interesting (read wierd, embarassing, and vulgar) characters and attractions on this street. After one stroll down it's length, we avoided it for the rest of our stay!
We couldn't leave NOLA with taking a Haunted History tour. Apparently the city is full of witches, ghosts, and voodoo queens...not to mention vampires!!! If you look closely, you can see that this gentleman actually has fang implants...meaning "permanent"...although he says he's not a real vampire!
Wierd shadow of Christ thrown up on the back of St. Louis Cathedral.
Here we are with a ghost that must have followed us from the Vampire Tour last night!!
Not Really! It was just so humid at 9:00 am that my camera lense fogged when I opened it!
Just chillin' with one of the locals!
This is opposite Jackson's Square and St. Louis Cathedral.
Of course, we couldn't leave without having some hot beignets at the world famous Cafe du Monde!
This is a tribute to Joan of Arc at the entrance to the French Market.
Loved the architecture of the French Quarter. These homes were built around the perimeter of the property with an open courtyard in the middle so the family could relax in private.
This home (now a hotel) is unusual in that it was built in the "American style" of being contructed in the center of the property.
Louisiana has a semi-tropical climate (hot and humid!) that these plants thrive in. Me...not so much!!!
That's Meg walking to our hotel...the building just ahead. We had a great time seeing the sights and sampling the cuisine and now it's off to Lafayette for the nuptuals!!!
